The Ninth Triennial ASDAH Conference
Southwestern Adventist University – Keene, Texas
May 16-18, 2019
“Crossing the Threshold: 1919”
The Ninth Triennial Association of Seventh-day Adventist Historians (ASDAH) will convene on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, May 16-18, 2019. Authors are invited to submit abstracts of papers that approach the theme -- “Crossing the Threshold: 1919” – from any perspective: historical, political, sociological, textual, or any other theoretical model. Possible topics may include the Treaty of Versailles, the 1919 Bible Conference, race riots in the United States, the start of the Harlem Renaissance, League of Nations, or other topics that illustrate the transitory nature of 1919 for the world and for our church. Topics need not be centered solely on 1919, but at least use that year as a central pivot point. Papers may be presented from either a U. S. or global focus.
Whereas papers that resonate with the theme are particularly welcome, all abstracts will be considered; including those addressing earlier times, or pedagogical issues in postsecondary education for our field. Pre-formed panels or papers designed to be presented with another paper are welcome, although individual papers that are accepted will be placed on panels with others that are similarly themed.
SDA academy or high school history and social studies teachers are invited to contribute papers and plan sessions dealing with pedagogical issues and challenges in secondary education.
In light of ASDAH’s historical focus on denominational history, papers that focus on aspects of SDA history are of particular interest. Since 2014, SWAU has administered grants provided by the Dr. Donald R. and Anne P. McAdams and ExxonMobil Foundations for researchers working in SDA history. ASDAH especially welcomes proposals from recipients of McAdams grants.
Papers should be no longer than 8-10 pages, or about 20 minutes when read aloud.
Send proposals, abstracts, completed papers, or proposals for sessions by January 15, 2019, to Dr. Amy Rosenthal, SWAU VPAA, [email protected], or Dr. Steve Jones, SWAU History Department chair, [email protected]. Proposals may also be sent to Southwestern Adventist University History Dept., 100 West Hillcrest, Keene, TX 76059.
We are happy to announce that conference speakers will include
Registration is $90 until February 1 and $110 thereafter. Checks should be mailed to the address above and made out to Southwestern Adventist University. Include “ASDAH” on the memo line. Registration can also be made online. Click link below to be transferred to the registration page:
